Tenom: Tenom Division Upko Youth deputy chief Lai Kim Ming, who is also the deputy Treasure for Sabah Upko has quit the party, effective immediately today (Friday).
Lai, who has been in the party under the guidance of Datuk Bobbey Suan (Nabawan), said he has decided to quit the party following changes in the party direction.
“I feel that the party is not heading towards the direction we were initially heading for prior to GE14, and this is no longer the platform I see fit for me to serve the people, as what i have been advised by my mentor Datuk Bobbey Suan,” he said.
He said the decision to quit Upko was however his own, without anyone else’s influence.
He however did not say which party he is planning to join after this, but quitting Upko will definitely not be the end of his political career.
Lai said he had wanted to serve the people especially in his area of Tenom with a genuine and local party, but all that has changed after its party leadership including president Datuk Seri Madius Tangau ditched Barisan Nasional to align with Parti Warisan Sabah and the Pakatan Harapan governemnt.
“There sre too many differences in oponions in the party and I cannot see where I fit in anymore,” he said.
He said for now, he will continue to help the people especially the youth in other platforms, and that they still are able to contact him and find him anytime they need.
“You know where to find me,” he said.-SabahNewsToday
