LAHAD DATU, Aug 11 (Bernama) — The Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry plans to set up a National Arts Culture and Heritage Academy (Aswara) branch in Sabah.
Its minister, Mohamaddin Ketapi, said he had notified the matter to Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal unofficially.
“However, an official letter will be submitted to the chief minister and it is up to him to let the matter to be brought into the discussion at the state cabinet,” he said.
Mohamaddin, who is also Silam MP, said this to reporters after officiating the Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Terusan and the launch of education and career carnival 2018 at the school today.
He said the move to bring Aswara to Sabah aimed at giving the youth in the state an opportunity to expand their art, culture and musical talents by studying at the academy.
Meanwhile, in a separate development, Mohamaddin expressed his full support for the SMK Terusan’s plan to build swiftlet nests as well as a homestay at the school compound for tourism purposes as long as the projects did not violate the guidelines set by the Education Ministry.
