KOTA KINABALU: Tadika Stella Maris hopes to raise RM100,000 for its building and welfare fund as it celebrates its 60th Anniversary this year.
The organising chairman, Nelson Lianjun said during the kindergarten’s blood donation drive and launch of the kindergarten’s magazine yesterday that as of to date, the kindergarten was dependent on aids from the government for any works that needed to be done at the school building.
“We hope that by having this fund, we can decrease our dependence,” he said.
In addition to the blood donation drive which was held in collaboration with the Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s (QEH) blood bank yesterday, the kindergarten will also hold other events to mark its 60th anniversary celebration.
“We are targeting 30 pints from the blood donation drive,” he said.
Other events to be held is the “Fun Walk with Your Child” on Sept 22 between 6am and 10am at the Perdana Park in Tanjung Aru.
To take part in the walk, a registration fee of RM40 per person will be charged (for solo walkers), while a parent who walks with one child will be charged RM75.
The kindergarten is also selling its magazine which features photographs collection of children who have attended the kindergarten throughout the years at RM25 each. There are only 300 copies of the magazine available.
“All the proceeds will go to the fund,” he said.
On Oct 6, the kindergarten will be holding its charity dinner which would be launched by Reverend Archbishop Datuk John Wong.
“There will be 40 tables during the event. Each table is sold at RM880,” he said.
Kindergarten principal, Sister Mary Lucy A. Embayan has urged all former students to come and aid the kindergarten.
“We need your support so that we can carry out our building rectification works as and when they need to be done,” she said.
She added that presently, the kindergarten is dependent on the government and have to apply for an allocation each time they needed to carry out rectification works.
“As a result, it takes quite some time before we can start any work,” she said.
She urged former pupils to help by purchasing the kindergarten’s magazine which may even feature their photographs while they were pupils at the kindergarten; or partake in the fun walk; as well as purchase ticket(s) for the upcoming charity dinner.
