KOTA KINABALU: Police seized 250 gramme of substances believed to be Syabu with an estimated value of RM25,000 from a 42-year-old Filipino in an ambush near KK Plaza here last Saturday.
City Police Chief, ACP Habibi Majinji said the team from the City police narcotic division made the arrest after intel reports showed the suspect had been active for a couple of months around the city.
“The police team sprang on the suspect as he was spotted carrying a plastic bag near the KK Plaza building,” he said, adding that the suspect responded aggesively in an attempt to escape before being subdued.
Habibi said that five transparent plastic packets of various size all containing the crystalline substances were found inside the plastic bag upon inspection.
The suspect whose urine sample tested negative for drugs and has no previous criminal record have been remanded for seven days until Oct 13 to facilitate investigation under Section 39B of the 1952 Dangerous Drugs Act.
Further investigations were also being conducted to identify the source of the seized substance, he said.
“The success proves that the police, particularly the City Narcotic Division are always committed in the efforts to eliminate drug activities in the State.
“We also thank the community who have been acting as the eyes and ears of the police to provide vital information on these illegal activities in their surroundings,” he said.-SabahNewsToday
