AWAU, Aug 9 (Bernama) — A Tawau senior customs officer was among three men detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on suspicion of abuse of power and corruption.
The officer and two clerks of a transportation company, aged between 29 and 49, were picked up at the MACC office and the town area yesterday between 5.15 pm and 7.35 pm.
According to an MACC source, the senior officer was arrested on suspicion of soliciting a RM3,000 bribe from a man in return for the release of a boat.
The two clerks were nabbed for allegedly abetting the officer in accepting the bribe and acted as middlemen.
The suspects were remanded for six days beginning today to facilitate investigations under Section 16 (a) and 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
The order to remand the men was issued by Magistrate Herlina Muse.
