IPOH, Sept 20 (Bernama) — The Sabah men’s 4×400 metres (m) athletics quartet closed the sport’s curtain in the 2018 Malaysia Games (Sukma) with sweet memories after winning the gold medal at the Perak Stadium today.
The Sabah quartet (Riski Tahir, Shahrimien Saimoh, Tonga Jody Edmund and Zaidie Khani Kanisus) recorded 3 minutes 14.42 seconds leaving the Selangor Quartet (Mohammad Thaqif Mohammad Hisham, Muhammad Aidil Amin Ahmad Shah, Muhammad Ilham Suhaimi and Putra Azrul Syazwan Azman) in second place for the silver medal (3: 14.79s).
The bronze went to the Terengganu quartet (Muhammad Firdaus Mohamad Zemi, Muhammad Syakir Daniel Fauzi, Muhammad Zulhilmi Chek Azman and Ruslem Zikry Roseli) who clocked 3: 15.48s.
“We did not expect to win the gold medal because the rivals from other teams were also fantastic. But with the support of friends, Sabah supporters and coaches, we were able to improve our spirit and motivation.
“This is also our best record. During the 2016 Sarawak Sukma we only won a bronze medal with 3: 17.32s. Our almost one-year training was worth it, “Tonga Jody told Bernama.
