The State Government is consistent in promoting home ownership among Sabahans amidst rising property prices in the State, according to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Aman.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Menara Borneo Housing Building in Kota Kinabalu on Saturday, Musa said that among suggestions the government will consider to promote home ownership include a proposal by Sabah Housing and Real Estate Developers Association (SHAREDA) to establish new satellite townships in sub-urban development.
To curb speculative buying and control the spiraling prices, the Government has introduced changes to the Real Property Gains Tax during the tabling of the National Budget in October, Musa added.
Musa congratulated Borneo Housing on its outstanding performance in assisting homebuyers in both Sabah and Sarawak.
“The position of Borneo Housing is quite unique as it is a company jointly owned by the Sabah and Sarawak state governments in close cooperation between the two states,”
He said over the years the company has assisted over 40,000 families in the two States to own homes.- Insight Sabah
