KUALA KRAI: Logs dumped into the river has been identified as the main cause for a bridge in Hulu Kelantan to collapse during floods, said Kelantan UMNO Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.
Hence, he suggested that the state government enforce a specific law to prevent loggers from dumping timber waste into rivers.
“We want the state government to take action so that the logs will not be thrown into the river just like that, these debris will damage the low-level bridge and at the same time burden the people and cost the government money,” he said after visiting a collapsed bridge in Kampung Pemberian here today.
Also present were Dabong assemblyman Datuk Ramzi Ab Rahman and state Federal Development Department (JPP) director Datuk Makhtar Mustapha.
Mustapa, who is also the Minister of International Trade and Industry said the federal government had approved an allocation of RM40 million to construct a permanent bridge in the village.-BERNAMA
