PUTRAJAYA: The National Unity and Integration Department (JPNIN) with the cooperation of the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) will
organise a writing contest for the media based on titles related to unity, from next year.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Joseph Kurup said the eight-month long competition was aimed at encouraging electronic and print media practitioners to write articles highlighting national unity and integrity issues.
“The award will be a catalyst to the mass media to be more enthusiastic in turning out unity news to bring awareness and educate society towards a culture of tolerance,” he said in his speech at the 2015 JPNIN Unity Media Appreciation night here, tonight.
In addition, he said JPNIN would also cooperate with the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor to implement the MyHero programme.
“In this programme, individuals who have sowed good deeds and contributions regardless of community, religion or origin are awarded,” he said.
In the meantime, Joseph urged media practitioners to play a role as a medium to strengthen the unity of the multi-racial people in the country.
“The unity of the people is the foundation to the strength of the nation to create a harmonious living environment, political stability and strengthening
the economic status of the country,” he said.
Joseph also appreciated the contribution of the media to the success of the government in delivering unity messages to society.
He also handed out plaques of appreciation to media representatives, including the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama).- BERNAMA
