KOTA KINABALU: A woman committed theft to support her young child was sentenced to six months jail by the Magistrate Court today.
Jasmini Jasri, 27, admitted before Magistrate Stephani Abbie Sherron, to the charge of stealing several cosmetic products in 24 November, around 12.00pm at a store in Api-Api Centre.
She was charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code which carries a punishment of ten years jail maximum, or a fine.
According to the facts of case on 29 November, the shop owner lodged a police report after realizing several of the store’s cosmetic products were missing.
Upon investigation, CCTV record showed the accused with another woman, believed to be her sister, were stealing from the shop.
However, the accused’s sister denied her part in committing the crime. In mitigation the accused who was in tears and pleaded for a minimum punishment since she needed to care her young child.
“I steal the items because I want to support child,” she said.
