LAHAD DATU: A Suluk national lodged a police report that she was allegedly kidnapped by armed men before being released a few hours later after a RM50,000 ransom was paid, here.
Lahad Datu district police chief ACP Hamzah Ahmad confirmed that police had received a report on Thursday on the alleged kidnapping of a woman in Kampung Silam around 10pm on Wednesday near here.
The victim claimed that she was approached by three armed and masked men before being forced into an old white Ford vehicle without a registration number.
“She said there were two other suspects waiting in the vehicle and she was driven through Jalan Dewata and Jalan Danum,” he said in a statement here today.
Hamzah said the woman claimed that once in the car the men demanded a ransom of RM50,000 and threatened to kill her if the money was not delivered. She was then asked to contact a family member to raise the money.
“With the help of her family and neighbours the money was raised in about two hours. It was handed over to the suspects at the junction near Kampung Silam,” he said.
The suspects fled after releasing the victim who reported the incident to the police.- BERNAMA
