PUTRAJAYA-The breaking of fast hosted by United States President Barack Obama’s in June is an endorsement for Muslims all over the world said Malaysian ambassador to the United States Datuk Dr Awang Adek Hussin.
The breaking of fast hosted by the White House was a more joyous and meaningful occasion than last year due to the presence of many Muslim ambassadors and diplomatic corps and dignitaries.
“This is a major attraction during the holy month of Ramadan every year for diplomatic relations in the United States every year. The occasion was endorsed by religious scholars and Islamic non governmental organisations.
“Obama’s speech added splendour to the occasion,” he said during a televideo conference with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor at Seri Perdana, here today when asked if Obama had organised a ‘buka puasa’ do.
Meanwhile, Awang Adek said ambassadors from Asean countries and Malaysians living in the United States would be invited for an open house organised by the Malaysian Embassy starting 10.30am tomorrow (United States time).
“We will serve Malaysian cuisine like nasi himpit, lemang, rendang and bryani to our guests,” he said.
Obama when hosting the buka puasa at the White House on June 22 had said that Americans stand united in rejecting the targeting of any religious or ethnic group.
“We affirm that whatever our faith, we’re all one family,” he was quoted in the Daily Herald.
The Iftar dinner, which continues a tradition started by President Clinton and continued by President George W. Bush, featured nearly the entire diplomatic corps representing the Islamic world as well as a few young Muslim Americans Obama held up as examples of what can be achieved in the United States.
