KOTA KINABALU: Water sports can be developed as a tourism product and help generate income for the State.
Mayor of Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) Datuk Abidin Madingkir said, sailing is also a dynamic activity which should be exercised from a young age as it contributes to wellness as well.
“This recreational activity is not only for enthusiasts around the city but it can also be a tourist attraction,” he said adding that more of such activities should be held.
He said this in his speech during the closing ceremony of the 16th City Day Open Regatta tournament at Kinabalu Yacht Club (KYC), in Tanjung Aru on Sunday. It was delivered by the Director of Environmental Health Department, Robert Lipon.
In congratulating the winners of the competition, he said their energy is praiseworthy and the sports commendable being a main event in water sports in the State.
The City Day Open Regatta is one of the annual activities in the state tourism calendar to coincide with the Kota Kinabalu City Day on Feb 2.
Ninety participants including from Brunei Darussalam joined the competition which was held here on Feb 7 and 8, organized by KYC in collaboration with Sabah Sailing Association (Saila). – SayangSabah
