LABUAN: Police here seized two motorcycles and seven vehicles for flouting various traffic rules in two separate operations on Sunday and today.

The seven vehicles were seized because they were used as public transport without permit.

Labuan police chief Supt Adzhar Othman said the first operation dubbed ‘Ops Mabuk and Ops Samseng Jalanan’ was held along Jalan Tun Mustapha at around 1am and saw 34 summonses issued.

“At least 65 vehicles were checked in the three hour operation on Sunday night. A total of 75 people were screened for driving under the influence of alcohol and two motorists were taken to the police station and released the same day,” he said in a statement today.

In the ‘Ops Kereta Sapu’, which saw the seizure of seven vehicles, was held at around 9am today in downtown, next to the Sun Minimart.

The owners of the vehicles would be charged under Section 33 of the Commercial Vehicles Licensing Board Act (CVLB) 1987.

These vehicles were mainly used to transport passengers residing in the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) commune in Kiansam.-BERNAMA
