KOTA KINABALU: Numerous efforts and strategies have been implemented to incorporate Islamic values in the nation’s administrations involving politic, economy, education, and social.
Sabah Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Aman, said it is high time for these initiatives to be measured scientifically according to the local mould based on the Maqasid Syariah principles.
“The Malaysian Syariah Index is appropriate in evaluating the government’s commitment in implementing Maqasid Syariah and identify room for improvement that needs to be focused on.
“This is to get the benefits and results from the cultivation of Islamic values to be accepted by the public, regardless of their religions,” he said.
His text speech was delivered by the Assistant Minister for the Chief Minister, Datuk Mohd. Arifin Mohd. Arif, during the state level Wacana Eksekutif Indeks Syariah Malaysia.
Musa said the index’s main reference is based on the five aspects in the Maqasid Syariah, which revolves on the conservation of religion, life, mind, lineage, and properties.
In accordance with the five aspects, he said measurement and evaluation will be made to ensure policies and programmes made by the government are in line with the content and requirements of Maqasid Syariah.
“Since independence, Malaysia is seen as a model for Islamic country, thanks to the nation’s success in governance through Islamic principles.
“It began from the strengthening of the nation’s foundation through Article 3 (1) of the Federal Constitution where Islam is declared as the federal official religion,” he added.
Musa also hopes that Maqasid Syariah can be understood by all state government’s machineries, and its values to be instilled in every policy and government’s programme.
He explained that the approach is in line with the teachings of Islam where it stresses on perfection and transparency, especially in leadership and administration. –SayangSabah
