KOTA KINABALU: The improper handling of passenger baggage and the unnecessary hassle created by the Custom personnel at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) could tarnish the friendly hospitality image of Sabah.
The Sabah Tourism Federation (STF) Secretary General Christopher Chan shared that he encountered the unpleasant experience when returned to Kota Kinabalu from a business trip in Hong Kong on board the flight AK238 AirAsia last Saturday.
“After going through the immigration, we proceeded to the baggage claim area and after waited for more than an hour, we were only informed about the delay. Apparently, the baggage was delivered to another part of the airport while at the same time others newly arrived passengers from another flights were able to retrieve their baggage on time,” shared Chan.
“What unfolded next was the scanning of the passenger baggage and there were only two machines to cater for hundreds of tourists arriving at the same time which created a long beeline,” he said.
“I went to one custom officer to tell him that we have nothing to declare and he allow us to go through, however another lady officer stopped us and told us the green lane meant for those who have nothing to declare to exit is closed,” said Chan.-Sayangsabah
