KOTA KINABALU: Sabah UMNO Women have been elected as co-volunteers to monitor prices of goods, with the implementation of Goods and Services tax (GST) on 1 April.
Its chief, Datuk Armani Mahiruddin, said it is a collaboration with Sabah Ministry of Community Development and Consumer Affairs which has elected UMNO Women as volunteers to help Sabah Ministry of Domestic trade, Co-Operatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) agencies in monitoring prices of goods in their constituencies.
According to her, this effort is crucial since there are many traders who might use GST as an excuse to raise their prices of goods without adhering to rules and regulations.
“It is our duty as leaders to get involved and listen to the peoples’ grouses on the prices go goods and traders who take advantages on GST. For these reasons, we and KPDNKK will monitor these matters,” she said while chairing Sabah UMNO Women Committees Meeting at UMNO Building, here today.
Armani, who is also UMNO Women Exco, added that UMNO Women is also collaborating with Malaysia Royal Customs Department (JKDM) in organizing programmes for the public regarding on GST.
“Through Family and Women Development Council (MPWK), we and JKDM has launched various programmes to create awareness for the public on the implementation of GST,” she said.
In other development, she said that UMNO Women will organize Jelajah Sayang Programme in several constituencies in the interior in May. – SayangSabah
