KUALA LUMPUR: Two female students were killed and a woman hawker was hurt when they were hit by a van which was rammed by a runaway
lorry in front of a school in Bandar Damai Perdana, Kajang this afternoon.
The dead students were identified as Lau Zi Xin and Wong Siow Xuen, both 13, but the hawker was not identified.
Kajang District Police chief ACP Willey Richard said the runaway lorry was parked on a slope but rolled downhill five minutes later in the incident at 12.50 pm this afternoon.
“After ramming the van which was parked on a road shoulder, the lorry also ploughed into two cars and 34 motorcycles parked in front of the school. The two victims were extricated from underneath the van with the help of the Kajang Fire and Rescue Department and Civil Defence Department personnel.
“They were confirmed dead at the scene,” he said when met by reporters at the scene of the incident. Willey said the lorry driver, an Indonesian national, was detained to help in investigation under Section 304A of the Penal Code.
The dead were sent to the Serdang Hospital for autopsy while the hawker was taken to the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, the family of the dead victims declined to give any comment when approached by reporters and, it is learnt, would claim the bodies tomorrow morning.- BERNAMA
