KOTA KINABALU: Real estate developer, SP Setia Berhad, launched a land-breaking ceremony today to initiate the construction of two new flyovers as the new entrance way to Aeropod, which is one of the reconstruction projects planned for Tg. Aru railway station.
The two flyovers, with 841m and 318m in length each, are expected to be completed by early 2018.
The event was witnessed by the Deputy Chief Minister cum Minister of Infrastructure Development, Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, and Kota Kinabalu Mayor, Datuk Abidin Madingkir.
Pairin said the projects will ensure a smoother traffic management system as a preparation to accommodate mega-sized projects, such as the Aeropod.
“The projects will also benefit the local community since it indirectly becomes a connecting route to the rural area via Jalan Kepayan, where it makes travel much shorter, efficient, and safe,” he said when officiating the land-breaking ceremony.
SP Setia Berhad Chairperson, Tun Dato’ Seri Zaki Tun Azmi, said two more of the infrastructures will be built to further improve the efficiency of the transportation system at the area, with RM72.5 million has been invested by the company for all the projects.
Also present were the state Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Development, Datuk Ghulam Khan Haidar Bahadar, Datuk Bobbey Suan, Vice President cum CEO of SP Setia Berhad, Dato’ Khor Chap Jen, and the Deputy Vice President cum SP Setia Berhad Chief Operation Officer, Datuk Wong Tuck Wai. -SayangSabah
