KOTA KINABALU: The attempt of two local men to steal a cooking gas tank from a church failed when they were caught red handed by the police at Stella Maris Church, Tanjung Aru.
District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner M. Chandra, said the initial investigation has found both suspects in their 20s were residents of the same neighbourhood.
In the 3.15am incident, the complainant who was the church’s security guard was patrolling the area when he saw loud noises coming from the kitchen quarters.
“His then inspect the cause of the loud noises, and saw two men were trying to steal the cooking gas tank from the kitchen quarters,” he said, adding that the complainant then contacted to police for help.
Further investigation founds no other items were stolen and the suspects admitted to have broken in through the unlocked door leading to the kitchen quarters.
Both suspects have been brought to Kota Kinabalu District Police Headquarters to be investigated under Section 448 of the Penal Code. – SayangSabah
