KUALA LUMPUR: Two men were charged at the Magistrate’s Court here today with masquerading as traffic policemen and carrying out vehicle escort services, early this month.
Personal bodyguard, Rahiman Ghazali, 39, and night market trader Zainul Rizal Zaini, 39, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read out to them separately before Magistrate Mohd Rehan Mohd Aris.
Both the accused were alleged to have posed as policemen and used the Honda CBX750 motorcycles, which resembled the motorcycles of traffic policemen and carried out a vehicle escort duty at Jalan Raja Chulan towards Jalan Tun Razak here at 7pm on Jan 5.
They were charged under Section 170 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum jail term of two years, or a fine, or both, upon conviction. Deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Farith Muhammad Faizal offered bail at RM5,000 in one surety each.
Lawyer Md Ridzuan Othman, representing Rahiman in asking for a lower bail said his client was the family’s sole breadwinner and had parents, who were suffering from illnesses, to support.
Lawyer Yusman Che Aman, representing Zainul Rizal requested for a lower bail on grounds that the accused, who was earning a monthly income of RM1,500 had to support his unemployed wife, two children and his mother.
Magistrate Mohd Rehan allowed both accused bail at RM2,500 each in one surety and set Feb 29 for re-mention. – BERNAMA
