SANDAKAN: A total 430 turtle eggs were seized in an integrated operation by the Wildlife Department of Sandakan and the Sandakan Municipal Council (MPS) here today.
MPS Senior Assistant Enforcement Officer Sairin Abdul Rahman, who headed the integrated operation, said all the eggs had been abandoned by their owners.
He said the operation involved three personnel from the department and six from MPS.
Sairin said anybody found buying, selling or possessing turtle eggs was guilty of committing an offence under Section 41 (1) of the Wildlife Conservation Enactment 1997.
The enactment provides for a fine of RM50,000 or five years jail or both against those found guilty. – BERNAMA
