PUTRAJAYA: Police today recorded a conversation from former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad concerning his statement in his blog ‘Che Det’ on Feb 5 which was alleged to be slanderous.
The recording session involved three police officers at Dr Mahathir’s office at Yayasan Kepimpinan Perdana, here lasting half-an-hour beginning at 3pm.
This morning, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar confirmed that the police would record Dr Mahathir’s statement for investigation following several police reports lodged against him.
Dr Mahathir, when questioned by reporters after his conversation was recorded by the police, said he did not answer specifically the questions posed to him by the officers recording his statement, particularly on the writing in his blog entitled ‘AG to AG’ because he wanted to answer them in court if he was charged.
He said the police had posed 30 differing questions and “most of them concerning the article but I only replied in full the questions such as when I began writing blogs.”
Dr Mahathir, who was accompanied by five lawyers during the recording of his speech, said he was informed that the case was initiated after someone from Kelantan lodged a report on the article.
He said the police did not give any indication whether he would be charged in court or otherwise.- BERNAMA
