SEMPORNA: A trawler was seized by APMM three nautical miles southeast from Pulau Mata Pahi, at about 11.08am last Sunday for operating with an expired license.
Tawau Maritime Enforcement Chief, Maritime Captain Anor Haji Jaafar, said the boat was held up and inspected by the authority which then found its license has expired on June 21.
“Three of the crews aged between 15 to 68 years old also failed to show valid identification document when asked during the inspection,” he said to the media.
All of the crews and the boat have been brought to Semporna APMM Jetty for further investigation under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Fisheries Act 1985.
He also calls for maritime community especially those in Tawau to follow the law and guidelines when doing their activities at sea, and to inform any crime activities occurring at the nation’s waters to the authority via the MERS line 999 or to Tawau Maritime Operation Centre (089-752115). –SayangSabah
