PENAMPANG: “Goods priced with an extra 99 cents shows that traders are not sincere in their business,” said the state Minister of Community Development and Consumer Affairs, Datuk Hajah Jainab Hj. Ahmad Ayid, during a press conference for the Walkabout Programme for 2016 Chinese New Year at Giant hypermarket, Penampang.
“For me, traders who tagged their goods with RM6.99 are not sincere since when we pay at the counter, it’s actually RM7.00,” she said.
She also questioned if these business owners are honest in lowering their prices, since they have the option to charge RM6.95 or RM7.00 for practicality.
“This situation can create negative public perception where no inspection or monitoring has been done by relevant authority,” Jainab said.
Many consumers are still uninformed that under the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumerism (KPDNKK), they are represented by the Consumer Tribunal which can be used as a channel to report their problems, she added.
In conjunction with the upcoming Chinese New Year, the government declared 13 goods to be under the Festive Seasons Price Control Scheme which are enforced from 3 to 14 February. –SayangSabah
