Thirteen months jail for drugs and stealing


KOTA KINABALU: The Magistrate Court sentenced a local man to 13 months jail, for possessing drugs and stealing.

For the first charge, the accused, Williearl @ Innocent Robin, 37, confessed that he hid a drug substance inside his body in 23 November last year, at 2.27pm.

He was charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the punishment of up to two years jail or RM5,000 fine maximum, or both.

For the second charge, he admitted to stealing four pairs of branded shoes (Nike, Adidas, and Playboy) belonged to two men at a house at Jalan Damai, around 5.10am of the same day.

He was charged under Section 379 of the Penal Code which carries the punishment of seven years jail maximum, a fine, or both.

According to the case fact, the complainant was driving when he saw the accused was breaking into his neighbour’s house, where the accused also saw the complainant and tried to hide before running away.

The complainant also noticed a pile of shoes left behind at the entrance of his neighbour’s house. He then pursue the accused up to the end of the alley.

In mitigation, the accused pleaded for a lighter sentence since it was his first criminal record, and he has a pregnant wife and a small child that he need to provide.

Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun sentenced the accused with five and eight months jail for the first and second charges.

The court also ordered for the accused to serve his sentence consecutively.
