KUALA LUMPUR: The house of Malaysian hostage, Bernard Then Ted Fen who was beheaded by a militant group in Mindanao yesterday, was found vacant.
A check by Bernama revealed that the victim’s house in Meadow Park 2, Jalan Klang Lama was locked while the lights in one of the bedrooms was switched on.
Efforts by Bernama to obtain confirmation on the death of Then from one of his family members and close friends also failed as there was one seen in the apartment unit.
A neighbour of the victim, known as Briunda, 24, said the last time she saw the victim’s wife was in October.
“The last time I saw the woman who lived in the house left about 20 days ago,” she said.
Efforts by Bernama to obtain information on the Then family from the apartment management also failed when they declined to give any information.
Singapore Straits Times online at www.straitstimes.com quoted Joint Task Group Sulu chief Brig Gen Alan Arrojado as saying Bernard Then was beheaded at about 4 pm in an Abu Sayyaf stronghold in Jolo Island in the Sulu Province, about 1,400 km south of Manila.
On May 14, Then, an electrical engineer was among two victims kidnapped by four armed men from southern Philippines who raided the Ocean King Restaurant in Sandakan at 7.45 pm.
The other victim was Thien Nyuk Fun, 50 who was the restaurant manager.
However on Nov 8, Thien was released by the kidnappers after negotiations between the government of Malaysia and the armed group. – BERNAMA
