The Role of Parents in Creating Future Leader

KOTA KINABALU – Parents involvement in the education of their children are becoming more profound as the nation goals to strive for quality in education at the international bearings.

The current trends indicates that the roles of education has change from its traditional norms.

The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Masidi Manjun said in his speech that the students are not just coming to school to learn but also taught to be knowledgeable with good values as they are the future leaders of the country.

“We need to be ready to accept changes in our education system through continuous innovation of policy and strategy as it may not be effective in the future,” he said at the excellence awards presentation for SMK Tansau, Penampang at Wisma Muis, here today.

He stated that the education system need to be dynamic and progressive align with the circulations of time.

“Creating excellence student and students who are competent is required so that these students have the standard quality to further their studies to higher level learning institute,” he said.

Masidi said that incorporation of teamwork between the schools, teachers, parents and the community are important for the success of students in their education.

“For all this while, the perception of parent involvement in their children education in schools occurred naturally. However, the roles of parents are beyond that, as education starts from home,” he said.

He added that schools and teachers need to produce an innovative and creative process of learning to the students so that quality of education can be achieved.

“Shifting from memorizing form of learning to stimulating the mind that emphasise on the Higher Order Thinking (HOT) skills and the usage of mind map i-Think; are some of the strategic education method that can be use,” he said.
