KOTA KINABALU: A ceremony to give letter of authority to 10 PSBS District Branch Chairperson (PCD) was held at Yaho Hotel, here yesterday.
Sabah United Sungai Ethnic Heritage Association (PSBS) President, Datuk Masiung Banah, said the appointment is to help in planning, research, development, and documentation of the ethnic cultures and heritage in the state.
“We appoint chairpersons for each district to revise and study the practice of Sungai ethnic from all aspect including language, cuisine, cultures, and traditional costumes,” he said.
He also said PSBS is set up to assist the government in preserving unity in the country.
Masiung was speaking during a press conference for the PSBS PCD handing of letter of appointment ceremony.
The newly appointed chairpersons will be stationed to monitor their respective district which has a considerable number of Sungai communities such as in Tongod, Pitas, Sandakan, Kudat, Paitan, Kinabatangan, Labuk, Beluran, Membakut, Ranau, Lahad Datu, and Kota Kinabalu.
He added that PSBS is open to all organizations based on ethnicity or Sungai ethnic, as well as to Sungai community associations in the district level.
“We do not intend to compete with any ethnic organizations that have already existed in the state. We only want to cooperate with other ethnics in the state and uphold ethnic heritage,” he said. -SayangSabah
