Ten illegal immigrants jailed for illegal entry

KOTA KINABALU: Ten illegal immigrants (PATI) including two women received a jail sentence from the Sessions Court, today, for entering the state without a valid travel document.

The four months jail punishment was given by Judge Ainul Shahrin Mohamad for all the illegals aged between 28 to 52 years old.

All of them were punished under Section 6(2)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 which carries a punishment of up to RM10,000 fine or five years jail maximum, or both with caning, if found guilty.

The court also ordered for six of the illegals aged below 50 years old to be given one lashing each.

All of them will be referred to the Immigration Department for deportation after the completion of their jail sentence.
