KUALA LUMPUR: A restaurant worker was sentenced to 10 days’ jail and fined RM250, in default 15 days’ jail, by the Magistrate’s Court here today for stealing 30 boxes of toothpaste from a convenience store at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
Magistrate Nur’Aminahtul Mardiah Md Nor handed down the sentence on Muhamad Azlan Ibrahim, 22, after he pleaded guilty to the charge.
He was charged with stealing the toothpaste, worth RM140.40, at the Hospi Mart HKL at 12.55pm yesterday.
Muhamad Azlan was charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code which carries a jail sentence of up to 10 years, or fine.
In mitigation, the accused, who was unrepresented, said it was his first offence and he had to support his mother.
