KOTA KINABALU: A 17-year-old teenager has been detained by the police, suspected to be involved in a snatch-theft crime on a female teacher at Jalan Damai Luyang on 30 March.
Investigation Officer, Inspector Maidon Barnabus, said the teenager was apprehended several hours after committing the crime with one of his friend who are still free.
In the 11.50pm incident last Sunday, the 55-year-old victim was walking when she was approached by two males on a motorcycle.
“Suspects then snatched the victim’s handbag which contained cash RM150, two mobile phones, ATM cards, and Mykad before leaving the crime scene,” he said in his statement.
The victim then lodged a police report at 12.12am on 30 March at Luyang Police Station.
Based on information, the police then launched a raid at a worker quarters around 4.30am before they arrested a local male suspect.
“The suspect who is working as a labourer admitted his involvement in the snatch-theft crime with his friend who is still free,” he said, adding the suspect is also drug positive for methamphetamine.
“Initial investigation has found the suspect have past criminal records under Section 12 (2) and 15 (1) of Dangerous Drug Acts 1952,” he said.
The suspect is remanded for further investigation under Section 379 of the Penal Code.
“Efforts to track down the other suspect is still ongoing,” he added. – SayangSabah
