KOTA KINABALU: United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (UPKO) acting president, Datuk Wilfred Madius Tangau said he was grateful for the prime minister’s confidence in him, appointing him as a minister in the new cabinet line-up.
Tangau is the new Science, Technology and Innovation Minister, replacing UPKO vice-president Datuk Ewon Ebin, who held the portfolio previously.
“My gratitude and appreciation to the prime minister for his confidence in me and UPKO. I thank one and all in UPKO. I will need my party’s full support in this new endeavour,” he said in a statement, today.
Tangau, who is Tuaran member of Parliament, said UPKO, as a Barisan Nasional component party that he led, would always be behind the prime minister towards realising Vision 2020 and beyond.
“We have said it before, and we say it again today that UPKO is in the arena with the prime minister. It is a trying time for the country.”
“But I am sure the prime minister has what it takes to captain us through the rough seas, towards the realisation of Vision 2020 and beyond,” said Tangau, who is in Milan, Italy, visiting his daughter who is studying there.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in Forestry from Universiti Putra Malaysia and a master’s in Development Management from the Asian Institute of Management, Manila, the Philippines.
He has been involved in politics since the 1980s and in 1999, he won the Tuaran parliamentary seat.
