KOTA KINABALU: The appointment of UPKO vice president, Datuk Madius Tangau, in the Cabinet mirrors the confidence of the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Naib Tun Razak, to the party’s leadership.
UPKO Secretary, Datuk Donald Mojuntin, said the party welcomes Madius’ appointment into the federal Cabinet as announced by Najib yesterday.
“UPKO is thankful to the Prime Minister for his confidence for UPKO leadership to carry the full ministerial position.
“At the same time, UPKO is also proud and appreciate the service of the previous Mosti minister, Datuk Dr. Ewon Ebin,” said the statement sent via WhatsApp to SayangSabah.
Besides from Madius selection into the federal Cabinet, former Sabah DUN Speaker, Datuk Seri Salleh Said is also listed for position of Minister of Communication and Multimedia.
According to Donald, Ewon has greatly represented UPKO as a federal minister and the party perceives the cabinet reshuffle by Najib as a common procedure.
The matter, he said, is the prerogative or jurisdiction of the Prime Minister and it will only be carried out after all matters have been weighed.
With the recent reshuffle, UPKO hopes that the Prime Minister has a Cabinet team that is united to ensure all policies and programmes will be carried out more efficiently for the benefit the people and country.
He also said UPKO has full trust for Madius to carry out his duty and continue the tradition started by Tan Sri Bernard Dompok when he represented UPKO and Sabah in the federal government. – SayangSabah
