KOTA KINABALU: The 50-year-old Taman Perkuburan Keramat, a Muslim cemetery at Mile 2, off Tuaran road will be reorganised to turn it into a park.
Kota Kinabalu City Hall (KKCH) Director General Datuk Yeo Boon Hai said the proposal has been agreed by the Sabah Islamic Affairs Department and the cemetery committee.
“The idea to turn the graveyard into a park was suggested by Datuk Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif, Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister Department,” said Yeo during a gotong royong programme at the cemetery on Saturday.
Special Tasks Minister Datuk Teo Chee Kang also turned up to give moral support noted that the gotong royong programme participated by some 250 people from the both the State and Federal statutory bodies as well as State’s Barisan Nasional component parties reflected the ‘Spirit of Sabah’.
“Regardless of race, we come together to clean up the cemetery especially this one that is near the city to get rid of the mosquitoes breeding grounds,” said Teo.- Sayangsabah
