SANDAKAN: The relevant authorities are urged to monitor illegal electricity connection at squatters settlements in the state.
Sekong Assemblyman (ADUN), Datuk Samsudin Yahya, said the issue is not new and requires immediate solution.
“I call for more inspection to be carried out to prevent similar case to happen. The relevant authority should be strict in their action to solve this issue.
“Don’t wait until death occurred. Stealing electricity can happen anywhere, so we want the related parties to take action and not to wait until more lives are lost,” he said.
Previously, Apolos Jeremos, a firefighter, died due to electric shock during the operation to extinguish forest fire at Taman Kinari Batu 7, Sandakan.
Samsudin stressed that if the illegal activities are not curbed, it may put the local communities at risk.
According to him, it is difficult to detect electric cable hidden by bushes and it becomes a death trap for on-duty personnel.
In this matter, he calls for immediate action to be taken by relevant parties to prevent similar incident to happen in the future. – SayangSabah
