TAWAU: Children’ potential in sports should be harnessed without neglecting their performance in the academic.
Sabah Minister of Youth and Sports, Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan, said children’ interest and talents in sports must be supported to ensure them to grow up as an active and intelligent individual.
The Apas assemblyperson also calls for parents to support their talented children in sports activities especially in field and track.
However, he reminded them not focus solely on sports and neglect academic performance which is the backbone of success.
He was speaking during officiating the 31st SK Kuala Apas Field and Track sports competition.
Also present were SK Kuala Apas Headmaster, Masna Lama, Apas Community Development Leader, Sarman Amat Simito, and Sabah Sports Board of Directors Member, Taha Malisi.
Tawfiq said the community in the area should also prioritize their health by practicing an active lifestyle.
“By maintaining health with exercise activities, we can prevent dangerous diseases such as obesity, hypertension, and heart problem.”
He also hopes for the public to take effort in improving their health by joining activities organized for them.
During the visit, the Tawau UMNO Chief also made a contribution of 200 plastic chairs for the schools and assistance for repairing its facilities. -SayangSabah
