KOTA KINABALU: TLDM Submarine Force Base (MAKS) received a visit from the Naval Army Commander, Admiral Dato’ Seri Panglima Ahmad Kamarulzaman bin Hj. Ahmad badaruddin, in his first visit to Kota Kinabalu TLDM Base since becoming one of the commander of TLDM in 18 November last year.
The visit is to observe the progress of the refit programme for the nation’s first submarine, Kapal Diraja Tunku Abdul Rahman (KD TAR) and to inspect the refit infrastructure at Boustead DCNS Naval Corporation Sdn Bhd (BNDC).
“I am proud with the refit programme which include up to 14,000 items to be inspected. This is also joined by local companies and for the first time utilized robots for the programme,” he said.
He also said the refit programme also proves the expertise, skills, and efficiency of local companies in defense industrial sector in handling the programme.
“The refit programme launched in schedules will ensure submarine equipments and operation to be in optimal condition until its routine repair for smooth operation,” he added.
The programme is one of the platforms to give local industries the opportunity to get involved with submarine maintenance and repair works and thus reduce the dependency on foreign experts. -SayangSabah
