KOTA SAMARAHAN: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today told Sarawakians to further strengthen their already strong racial unity and harmony.
“Despite the state’s plural society, the unity, harmony and tolerance is the best in the country. These should be preserved as well as strengthened so that the government can focus on its development agenda for even greater progress and prosperity,”he said.
Ahmad Zahid said this at the Civil Defence Department Post-Flood Programme at Kampung Endap in here.
Also present were the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim and state Land development minister Tan Sri Dr James Masing, who represented the Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem.
“When there is less internal conflicts or problems, it would greatly faciliate the government agenda,” Ahmad Zahid added.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid said Sarawak too was very lucky to have a very good chief minister who is committed to providing excellent and people-centric leadership.
“He should be allowed to remain at the helm of the government. With the coming state election, all Sarawakians should rally solidly behind him and give the Barisan Nasional the biggest mandate,”he said.
On his very regular visits to the state, Ahamd Zahid said it was a manifestation of the very strong and cordial relationship between the state and federal governments.
He said he agreed that the state still nedded more development and for the people’s welfare to be given priority, especially in times of disaster.
At the function, he received four boats for the Civil Defence Department’s relief and rescue operations during floods.
He also presented compassionate aid to 77 families from five villages in the area who were affectd by the recent floods here.- BERNAMA
