KOTA KINABALU: Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) warned that they will take legal actions including to charge any individuals who are disseminating seditious elements, in court.
National Police Vice Chief, Datuk Seri Noor Rashid Ibrahim, said while the Federal Constitution guarantees the freedom of speech, there are limits and boundaries that need to be adhere.
“Anyone who question the position of royalties (Sultans), court credibility, or disrupt the ethnic harmony, we will define them (the acts) under Section 2 of Sedition Act 1948,” he said in a press conference at Sabah Contingent Police Headquarters, here today.
Stern actions are important to ensure harmony and peace in the country are preserved, but the police will proceed with comprehensive investigation before taking the necessary action, he added.
“When we speak, we need to know the boundaries. If we disregard the boundaries, as a police officer with the intent to protect the nation’s peace and order, we will take action,” he said.
