TENOM: Houses constructed under Housing Assistance Programme (PBR) in participants’ lot are not meant to be rented for profits.
Sabah Minister of Rural Development, Datuk Radin Malleh, said renting PBR units are against the government’s policy, as PBR housing units are to provide housing for the poor community in the state.
“When I visited one of the PBR house on last Thursday, I was surprised to see a foreign national at the house even when it was owned by a local. The foreigner told me he only pays RM120 monthly as a rent,” he told the media after his working visit to observe the development brought by the government in the district, here today.
Radin, who is also Melalap State Assemblyman (ADUN), said the action also shows that they do not appreciate the government’s efforts in building housing units under PBR for the wellbeing of the people.
He added that the allocation provided by the Ministry of Rural and Regional Developmen (KKLW) for PBR projects in Sabah will be standardize by Sabah Ministry of Rural Development, while PBR projects are to be managed by district offices.
The public who have information on PBR participants renting their PBR units to foreign nationals can make a report to the authority for them to take actions, he added. – SayangSabah
