KOTA KINABALU: Sabah is proud to have four athletes and two coaches representing Malaysia at the Special Olympics World Summer Games 2015 in Los Angeles, USA on July 25-August 2.

The national contingent comprised 42 athletes and coaches from seven states programmes throughout the country departed for Los Angeles yesterday.

The State athletes Ong Chee Gian from Kota Kinabalu, Chia Yuan Sheng (Tawau), Aini Shafiqah Madlan (Lahad Datu) and Faridah Isa (Kudat) as well as their coaches Badoha Aslan (Tawau) and Lee Nyun Shui (Kudat) were given a sending off on Monday.

Ong, 19, will compete in half marathon and 1,500m; Chia, 27, (100m and shot put 4kg); Aini, 15, (200m and long jump) and Faridah, 24, (100m and shot put 3kg).

Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, Datuk Edward Yong Oui Fah who officiated at the sending off and handing over the Malaysia flag to the Sabah team said: “We are proud of you to have the opportunity to participate in the Los Angeles Special Olympics Games and we hope you  will bring back medals not only for Sabah but to Malaysia.”-Sayangsabah
