KOTA KINABALU: In conjunction with the christmas celebration Shell Timur Sdn Bhd together with Retailers in Sabah aims to raise up to RM40,000 as contributions towards the building of a schoolgirl’s hostel at Kg. Bantayan, Tamparuli.
The hostel, when completed will accommodate up to 200 rural schoolgirls aged 12 to 18 in the area, who would otherwise have to travel through long and difficult journey every day to get to school.
Towards this end, Shell Retailers in Sabah will contribute 1 cent for every 1 litre fuel pumped at any Shell station in Sabah and Labuan on 21st December. Shell Timur Sdn. Bhd. will match every ringgit contributed by the retailers. The total amount will then be handed over to the Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu South, whose members are championing the project.
Tuan Haji Azman Ismail, Managing Director of Shell Timur Sdn. Bhd, shares the inspiration behind the initiative: “Every child deserves an education. The journey to school, a trip most Malaysians take for granted is a daily struggle for these girls. Given their current circumstances, many of them will not reach their full potential. Shell aims to give these girls a chance at a better and brighter future.”
“It is encouraging to see so many individuals dedicated to making an impact in their communities. This simple act of filling up your tank on Monday, December 21st will mean a lot this festive season. We are optimistic that with the support from everyone, we will be able to surpass the target amount and contribute towards making a real and lasting difference,” he added.-Sayangsabah
