SUNGAI BULOH: The police today warned of severe action against individuals or others who spark unrest by spreading false information or making threats over the telephone.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the irresponsible act could cause panic among the people.
“Such calls are no joke. They are a serious matter. We take seriously every call or threat even if it may be false,” he told a news conference after launching the Chinese New Year road safety campaign at the Restoran Jejantas Sungai Buloh rest and service area near here.
Khalid was asked to comment on several bomb threat incidents in the city recently.
He declined to reveal the number of false calls the police had received so far, but said they were under control.
Bukit Aman Special Branch director Datuk Seri Mohamed Fuzi Harun said the police would cooperate with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to trace those who made false calls or threats.- BERNAMA
