KUALA LUMPUR: The Dewan Rakyat which sat from Oct 19 adjourned sine die at 12.40 am today.

During the 25-day sitting, seven bills were passed notably the Supply Bill 2016 which approved RM267.22 billion in government expenditure.
Other bills passed were the Allied Health Professions Bill 2015, Employees Provident Fund (Amendment) Bill 2015, Finance Bill 2015, Malaysia Deposit Insurance Corporation (Amentment) Bill 2015, National Security Council Bill 2015, Tabung Angkatan Tentera (Amendment) Bill 2015.

However, the Employees’ Social Security (Amendment) Bill 2015 was dropped. The sitting also saw Gelang Patah MP Lim Kit Siang suspended six months from Oct 22 after he refused to withdraw and apologise to the Dewan Rakyat Speaker over accusations he made against the Speaker.

The Dewan Rakyat also deliberated at length the transboundary haze that hit the country this year which was quite prolonged unlike previous years.

Also passed was a motion on redelineation of constituencies in Sarawak which saw the number of state seats increase from 71 to 82.

The final day of the sitting today also saw Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi clarifying the issue of RM2.6 billion in political funding that was deposited into the personal account of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Another noteworthy development, also today, was Lembah Pantai PM Nurul Izzah Anwar being referred to the Rights and Privileges Committee for meeting up with Jacel Kiram, the daughter of Jamalul Kiram III who had ordered an armed intrusion in Lahad Datu, Sabah in 2013, in Manila. – BERNAMA
