MANTANANI ISLAND (Kota Belud): Mantanani Island communities are to receive a second wave development phase through the planned RM43 million project.
Minister of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan, said that the planned development by the government includes a low cost hosuing project, estimated at RM18 million.
“The low cost housing unit will be sold at Rm42,000, with comfortable space layout for the families in the island,” he said in his speech for the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department Fire Safety Campaign, here today.
Fire extinguishers were also distributed at the event for 155 houses, as well as for a clinic, mosque, and primary school.
However, he stressed that the residents who wish to buy the housing unit need to follow its regulations; by not selling it to a third party in 10 years period.
“If there are individuals who cannot afford, they have the option to rent the housing unit with a rate or Rm120 a month from the District Office,” he added.
He also said that Mantanani Island has the potential to become one of the popular tourism-based island in Sabah.
In this regard, the government allocates Rm25 million to beautify the island landscape.
According to him, his ministry will collaborate with Tourism Ministry to identify the necessary tourism facilities for Mantanani Island.
“The government will build a tourist jetty at the west side of the island to ease access for foreign and local tourist into the island,” he added.
“It will also help in improving the island residents’ economy,” he said. – SayangSabah
