PAPAR: Schools and higher education institutes (IPT) should carry out regular safety audit to ensure their infrastructures and environment are hazard-free and suitable for effective teaching and learning process, said Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye.
The President of National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) said schools are considered as a workplace, where principals, headmasters, teachers, and other staffs are employees.
“Schools are also a place for work, and they need written policies for safety and health that are known by the school community, including by those who go to schools,” he said.
Lee was speaking during the launching of the awareness campaign for occupational safety and health at schools (OSCH in School) at SMK Benoni, today.
He also said OSH in schools should be practiced to guarantee the safety and welfare of employees, to protect both parents and schoolchildren, and for creating a suitable work condition.
NIOSH also introduced its Five Minute OSH programme, where students are briefed for five minutes on safety and health issues. -SayangSabah
