TENOM: Salangit-Rundum tragedy in 1915 is a historical event for Sabah that must be known especially by the young generation.
The matter was stressed by the state Minister of Rural Development, Datuk Radin Malleh, where efforts needs to be stepped up in providing information about the event to the public so that the struggle of Antanom will be remembered.
“I personally did not know about the event, but at form three I was exposed on the rise of Antanom to fight the British through the history book ‘The Rebellion’.
“Based on the story (from the book), Antanom went against (the British) to defend his country and to protect its dignity, especially when the head tax was introduced in Sabah interior by the colonialists,” he said.
He was representing the Deputy Chief Minister, Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, to officiate the 100th Anniversary for Salangit-Rundum, organized by the Association of Seven Lineage of [email protected] (Pusaka), at Datuk Seri Panglima Antanom Hall.
The event was attended by 2,000 visitors, including Sabah Murut Association President cum Kemabong Assemblyman (ADUN), Datuk Rubin Balang, and Pusaka chairman, Sinawat @ Welly Antakah. – SayangSabah
