KUALA LUMPUR: Sabah UMNO was tonight named the recipient of the party’s national-level MEMBARA (Help Society) Award.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who is UMNO president, presented the award to Sabah UMNO liaison chairman and Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman, who received RM10,000, a challenge trophy and certificate.
The prize-giving was held before the UMNO President’s briefing to party delegates attending the UMNO general assembly here.
The Membara programme was carried out by UMNO since 2014 as a medium by the party to help the people in its 191 divisions nationwide. Najib also gave away prizes to winners of the UMNO President’s Cup oratory competition.
An orator from Melaka, Mohd Rafee Madon, beat 14 other finalists to win the first prize of RM20,000, a certificate, challenge trophy and an accompanying cup.
Second place was won by Hanif Osman, from Selangor, who received RM15,000 a trophy and certificate, while third place went to Kamarulhairi Komeng, of Johor, who won RM10,000, a trophy and certificate.
The other 12 finalists of the competition each received RM2,000 and a certificate.- BERNAMA
