KOTA KINABALU: Cash prizes totalling RM43,000 are up for grab by the winners of the Sabah International Fishing Tournament 2016, which will be held at the coral reef area of Layang-Layang.
The tournament will start in 18 until 24 April next year, with 100 participants have registered to compete.
Sabah Fishing Association President, Datuk Wilfred Lingham, said programme will be held for six days and five nights, making it longer than the previous years.
“The decision was made after considering the requests of participants who had joined the tournament last year,” he said.
The top winner, he said, will bring home RM25,000 cash prize, while second and third winners will receive RM10,000 and RM5,000 cash prize respectively.
Consolation prizes of RM500 and a certificate will also be given to anglers ranked fourth, fifth, and sixth in the competition.
“Like the previous years, all species of Billfish, Humphead Wrasse (Mameng), sharks, and rays are not permitted throughout the tournament, and these species must be released. Any participants who break this rule will be disqualified,” he stressed.
Registration will be opened to those who are interested until 17 April next year, he said, adding that the fees are set at RM450 for SAA members and RM500 for non-members.
Participants will be set off from Sutera Marina Club at 9.00am on 19 April and expected to returned to the starting point before 1.00pm on 24 April. –SayangSabah
